Job Purpose
Provide the business with technical data, analysis and solutions that will ensure the cost-effective design and purchasing of materials used in the production of Caterpillar products throughout its lifecycle.
This will be achieved through the development of detailed component cost moｄｅｌs for both NPI and Current Product programs.
Cost moｄｅｌs coupled with your expert guidance and knowledge will be used to identify cost reduction opportunities for ｄｅｌivery through the CoE, Purchase, NPI or engineering teams in the form of negotiation, resource or design.
Individuals working in this role will be deemed manufacturing, process and cost experts by other areas of the business and will be called upon to provide ‘cost’ expertise as the norm.
This position will provide component reports to the business based on analysis completed
Primary Duties
? Using information taken from technical specifications, CAD moｄｅｌs, part samples, component assessment forms (CAF’s), process maps etc detailed Cost moｄｅｌs will be ｃｒｅａｔｅd. Moｄｅｌs are generated using dedicated software to process data including: - cycle time, machine data, labour rates, commercial data, scrap rates etc. On completion of initial moｄｅｌ process validation may be required at the supplier facility. Components or engine systems moｄｅｌled will be moderate to complex in design or manufacture
? Report assigned component & system costs Vs target throughout the NPI cycle and initiate and drive recovery actions to completion
? Be fully conversant in the use of dedicated Cost Moｄｅｌling software and will have responsibility for some basic administrative duties
? Creation of GAP analysis (Should Cost Vs Quote) reports and review with commercial team in advance of negotiation. Provide detailed technical support during supplier discussion and negotiation.
? Will initiate the identification of component cost reductions and organise any actions required to ｄｅｌiver the opportunity. Provide support to engineering team to help influence the design of a cost-effective technical solution during NPI and general design.
? Support purchase in the assessment of price changes to ensure accuracy and validity through Cost moｄｅｌs and negotiation
? Initiate and ｄｅｌiver simple departmental continuous improvement projects
? Provide Estimated Cost Data for assigned engine system during competitor evaluations
? Development of excellent working relationships, teamwork and project management across departmental boundaries (engineering, purchase, logistics, product management etc) is essential to ensure effective collaboration and saving ｄｅｌivery
Background and Experience
Essential:
? Educated to a degree level or relevant work experience >4 years
? Experienced in at least 3 manufacturing processes supplemented with the ability to research and learn new manufacturing methods for use in Cost Moｄｅｌs
? Analysing and interpreting numerical data ｃｒｅａｔｅd from moderately complex moｄｅｌs and reaching sound judgments and recommendations
? Excellent interpersonal skills required to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.
Desirable:
? Progressively responsible job-related experience is typically required
? Product knowledge
? Excellent understanding of commercial cost drivers
